GP 139 Presentation REVISED
Experience the joy of the good news from a Jewish sage in Galilee called Jesus. Study the texts which Matthew, Mark and Luke composed about him. For the first semester (SS 201) you will learn about the cultures and traditions out of which these gospels were composed; understand the so-called synoptic problem; and engage with the different passages on what Jesus preached and practiced in Galilee.

Parables of Jesus
Classic definition of a parable (by C. H. Dodd): "At its simplest a parable is a metaphor or simile drawn from nature or common life arresting the hearer by its vividness or strangeness, and leaving the mind in suffcient doubt about its application to tease it into active thought" (C. H. Dodd, The Parables of the Kingdom, New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1961, p. 5).
